About Me

carmen in kitchen

Hi! I’m Carmen, a proud Californian and a passionate home cook who believes that love is best served hot—and usually with garlic. I live just outside Sacramento, where the sunshine is kind to my herb garden and my kitchen is always alive with the clatter of pots, bursts of laughter, and the smell of something delicious in the air.

I didn’t go to culinary school. I didn’t need to. My first and greatest teacher was my mom. I grew up watching her glide through the kitchen with this quiet confidence, turning even a regular Tuesday dinner into something that felt special. She had this way of seasoning with intuition, never measuring, just tasting and adjusting until it was just right. I used to sit at the counter, eyes wide, soaking it all in. Over time, I started cooking beside her, learning how to bring a dish to life with just the right amount of heat and heart.

Cooking for my family is my greatest joy. There’s something so special about watching their eyes light up when they take that first bite of my creamy enchiladas or my lemon-garlic roasted chicken. It’s like I get to say “I love you” without saying a word. My meals aren’t always perfect—there have been sunken cakes and over-salted sauces—but they’re always made with heart. And my family? They’re wonderfully forgiving (especially if dessert is involved).

I like to play in the kitchen, mix flavors, try new ingredients, and sometimes, totally wing it. Some of my best meals have come from a “let’s see what happens” mindset. That’s the fun of it—food doesn’t have to be complicated to be amazing. You just need good ingredients, a little creativity, and someone to share it with.

To me, there’s nothing better than gathering around the table with the people I love, sharing stories, and passing plates piled high with comfort. That’s where the real magic happens.

So, from my California kitchen to yours, I’m Carmen—a home cook who lives to feed her family and savor every bite along the way. Welcome to my world. I hope you’re hungry.
